“Alli” App Now Available in English

The app serves as a support companion during medication abortion and has been used by 6,000 people

The “Alli” app, developed by Doctors for Choice Germany, is turning one year old and is getting its first makeover: the app is now available in English. The app guides individuals with an unwanted or disrupted early pregnancy through the entire process of a medication abortion. Each day, the most important information is summarized step by step. With answers to frequently asked questions, suggestions for managing side effects, and simple explanations of key medical terms, the app offers crucial support to those who need it.

In Germany, there are approximately 100,000 abortions and roughly the same number of miscarriages each year. Although they are normal reproductive experiences, both miscarriages and abortions remain heavily stigmatized. There is little public discussion or information about them. In addition, many myths and misinformation circulate online. As a result, it is not always easy for those affected to find medically accurate and unbiased information. For this reason, a team of medical experts from Doctors for Choice Germany developed the “Alli” app.

“We hope that these updates will make the companion app accessible to more people. We’re also delighted by the positive feedback we have received from colleagues, counselors, and patients alike. Since its release last year, around 6,000 people have used the app during their abortion or miscarriage.”

– Dr. Leonie Kühn, co-founder of the “Alli” app and advisory board member of Doctors for Choice Germany e.V.

Making the app available in English is an important step toward breaking down access barriers and thereby helping more people. This includes, for example, migrants and refugees who have English language skills but are not yet comfortable with German. Doctors for Choice Germany plans to make the app available in additional languages in the future.
